European Qualifying Series heads back to Tenerife

WSL Europe Updates

Las Americas Pro Tenerife will be the second stop on the men's European QS tour

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 January, 2018 - Canary Islands - The Las Americas Pro Tenerife, Stop No. 2 on the World Surf League (WSL) European Qualifying Series will bring some of the best surfers in the region to the iconic Atlantic archipelago from January 29, February 4, 2018.

Only a week after completing the inaugural event of the season in Israel, European surfers are already back to work in a busy start to their 2018 qualifying campaign with the men & women's QS1,500 event unfolding next week in the Canary Islands.

Jorgann Couzinet (FRA) will lead the men’s contingent as the number one seed, with an A-list of athletes closely following, including recent third place finisher in Israel Nelson Cloarec (FRA), Maxime Huscenot (FRA) as well as long time threats Gony Zubizarreta (ESP) and Jonathan Gonzalez (CNY) among others.

The women will start their season in Tenerife and start building a ranking internationally. Five-time European Champion Pauline Ado (FRA) will kick-start her campaign to re-qualify for the Championship Tour she has been touring for the past seven years. Reigning regional champ Carol Henrique (PRT) will also try to defend her crown, while sisters Eliza and Mikaela Greene (AUS) will bring a little international competition to the field.

MagicSeaWeed gave a first overview of the conditions on hand for next week:

Older NNW swell will be easing opening day. Small northerly trade swell is the main source of surf first couple of days of the event window. Northerly trade swell/small NW swell mix through midweek. A little stronger Northerly trade swell is on the radar last few days of event window. Also some South Atlantic activity mixes in a long period but small S swell pulse.

Considering the small surf on offer at first glance, event officials have the option to run on a back-up location within the Arona council area, on the southern tip of Tenerife.

The event will be webcast LIVE on
